SATURDAY 22nd: Rebuilding 2-3’ faces. Side-offshore wind developing by mid day.
SWELL: Mix of primary, short period SW windswell (building) and secondary, mid period ESE swell.
WIND: Onshore SW wind first thing, trending W through the morning and side/offshore WNW/NW around mid day and through the afternoon.
Swell/Surf Analysis
Somewhat tricky forecast for Saturday with a stalled frontal boundary currently over the region and low pressure developing over Korea. This low should drift north through the Sea of Japan during the next 24 hours, with a frontal passage by mid day on Saturday (and improving wind as the front passes).
Model guidance has backed off some on the expected SW windswell on Saturday, although we should still see contestable surf build in around knee-waist high through the morning, with some slightly larger sets possible with the incoming tide and peaking swell later morning and afternoon. We’ll also continue to see some mid period, but partially to heavily shadowed, ESE swell in the mix.
The best surf looks likely for the later morning through mid afternoon with the incoming tide and wind likely to switch to side/offshore. S/SW wind early morning should shift WNW/NW beyond the passing front in the mid morning to mid day time frame, with WNW to NW wind expected for the afternoon hours.
