The 2015 ISA World Adaptive Surfing Championship is comprised of three key parts:
- Adaptive Surfing Clinic and Expression Session – Thursday September 24th
- Adaptive Surfing Symposium – “Meeting of the Minds” with Keynote speakers, “Best Practices,” and discussion of the future of Adaptive Surfing and its development – Saturday September 26th
- World Championship Competition – Friday September 25th and Sunday September 27th
Participation Levels: The ISA World Adaptive Surfing Championship will be available to Adaptive Surfers from across the globe with varying ability levels.
- World Championship Competition (Elite Adaptive Surfers in conjunction with the National Surfing Federations)
- Clinic/Expression Session (Open to beginning to intermediate Adaptive Surfers and limited registration space)
Classifications:
- STAND– Surfers who ride waves standing upright
- Surfers in this division may have support to get into and out of the water and on and off their board but must be independent while in the water and on the wave. Surfers may use a Surfboard according to ISA rules/guidelines. No additional equipment will be allowed except for use of a upper/lower body medical prosthetic.
- UPRIGHT– Surfers who ride waves in a seated or kneeling position
- Surfers in this division may have support to get into and out of the water and on and off their board, but must be independent while in the water and on the wave. Surfers may use a surfboard or Wave Ski with one paddle in this division. Sitting or kneeling on a Surfboard will be allowed in this category, but must be in compliance to ISA Surf Board/Equipment rules/guidelines. No additional equipment will be allowed except for use of a upper/lower body medical prosthetic or wave skis paddle while using wave ski.
- PRONE– Surfers who ride waves laying down
- Surfers in this division may have support to get into and out of the water and on and off their board but must be independent while in the water and on the wave. Surfers may use a Surfboard according to ISA rules/guidelines. Lying down prone will be allowed in this category, but must be in compliance to ISA Surfboard/Equipment rules/guidelines. Siting on a Surfboard will NOT be allowed in this category. Please refer to ISA regional rules/guidelines for clarification. No additional equipment will be allowed except for use of a upper/lower body medical prosthetic.
- ASSIST– Surferse in this division may have support to get into the wave and back on the board but must be independent while on the wave. The surfer would be required to arrance for proper personal water support or arrange with the ISA to provide trained, professional water support. ISA will provide overall water safety.
- Surfers in this division may have support to get into and out of the water and on and off their board and may also have help getting into the waves, but must be independent while on the wave. The surfer would be required to arrange for proper personal water support or arrange with the ISA to provide trained, professional water support. ISA will provide overall water safety)
* All participants in any division may have assistance to get in and out of the water * Any non-assist division surfers must be independent in the water * All classification inquiries will be directed to and reviewed by the ISA Adaptive Surfing Advisory Board on a case by case basis.
